When sourcing manufacturers, I look for 3rd party certifications such as it being a certified B corporation or OEKO-TEX certified for fabrics, whether or not the product is recyclable or made with recycled materials, and also consider in general how transparent the manufacturer is in their business practices.
However, the USA is not capable of producing certain materials, and when that is the case, I make sure the USA manufacturer is sourcing the material ethically and sustainably.
